Regions of New Zealand – Marlborough





This month's region is Marlborough. 


Location – this region is on the north east tip of the South Island

Origin of name – named after the 1st Duke of Marlborough.


Main Towns – Blenheim (named after the battle that the Duke of Marlborough won) and Picton (both small towns)


Places to visit – Great wineries (particularly the Sauvignon Blanc) including Cloudy Bay and Oyster Bay, the Sounds (by boat), Swim with Dolphins, Queen Charlotte Track


Famous people from Marlborough –  Ernest Rutherford (split the atom), William Pickering (rocket scientist), Sharon O'Neill (singer – Maxine)
