Cry Me A River – Ella Fitzgerald

Now you say you're lonely
you cry the long night through
well, you can cry me a river
cry me a river
i cried a river over you
now you say you're sorry
for being so untrue
well, you can cry me a river
cry me a river
i cried a river over you

Cry Me A River was written for Ella Fitzgerald to sing in a film – but it got cut from the movie.  I really like the inventiveness of coming up with the phrase 'cry me a river' – which is sort of passive aggressive in this context.

Other artists have done the song including – Julie London, Shirley Bassey, Barbra Streisand and Diana Krall.
