State of the Month: New Hampshire





Here is the 29th instalment of my monthly feature going through the States of the United States in alphabetical order to check out how they got named, what their flag is like and other things of interest. 

New Hampshire is teensy compared to many States!  But it isn't the smallest.  It is the only State not to require adults to wear seat belts


Location – one of the New England States – top right hand side.

Origin of name – named after the English county

Pronunciation – New Ham+sheer


Nicknames – the Granite State, The White Mountain State.  And the State's motto is found on their licence plates – Live Free Or Die

Capital – Concord (largest city is Manchester)


Flower – Purple Lilac


Bird – Purple Finch - looks pink to me..


Signature foods – Cider Donuts, Lobster Roll


Famous places to visit – Picturesque Concord, Fall Colours, Glen Ellis Falls, Portsmouth coast

Famous businesses/brands – Segway, Velcro, Timberland
