The Story of Arthur Truluv by Elizabeth Berg

At first I wasn't sure I'd be posting about The Story of Arthur Truluv.  It felt a bit too similar a proposition to A Man Called Ove.  But then the book grabbed me and I was well and truly hooked.

The title character is an elderly widower.  Truluv is not his real name, it is a name bestowed on him by a troubled and talented 18 year old girl.  Sounds a little sappy?  Well it is in a way – but it is also very humorous and insightful.

Arthur is a well-drawn character – quite different personality than Ove – but still very believable.  I didn't quite enjoy the elderly neighbour character as much but it is through her that we realise what a gentleman Arthur is.

  1. I will read this, it sounds good. I like novels with senior citizens as a focus.
