Despite the sound of his name the artist who produced
this was Scottish! The setting doesn't
feel particularly Scottish to me and nor does it feel like the work was done in
1992. It has an older feel – like from
the Downton Abbey sort of era. Well, how
many people have butlers and maids these days?
This painting was sold in 2004 for over 750,000 pounds –
that's serious money.
The painter took up art as a hobby in the 70's – he is
self-taught. Some of his subjects are a
bit naughty (sort of burlesque). You'll
have to check those out for yourself if you are interested.
I love this Painting, Carole, and did not know he was Scottish! Picked up a jigsaw puzzle of it but the pieces were very strange and I was having a terrible time telling what went where and it was more frustrating than fun so I gave up!
