Hokusai – Woodblock prints

Hokusai was a very famous Japanese artist.  He lived from 1760 to 1849 (positively recent in terms of Japanese history)

His most important works were created after he was 60 – so there is hope for everyone.

The pic at the top is of his greatest masterpiece – The Great Wave Off Kanegawa.  Kanegawa is now part of Yokohama.  Mt Fuji is in the background.  At first I thought this was a tsunami but apparently it is meant to be a rogue wave.

I also like Fuji Mountain in Clear Weather

And Unusual Views of Celebrated Bridges.

There is something quite modern to me about his work.

He also did some naughty art – which I won't show you
