The Cutaway by Christina Kovac

You are going to think I've run mad given that this is the second post in a row on a crime (thriller?) book.  But it was a terrific read despite some failings of the main protagonist that didn't ring quite true for me.

The protagonist this time is a TV news director.  A woman has gone missing and the producer Virginia Knightley has a feeling that she has seen the woman before on TV in a cutaway shot – hence the title.

From that point you are on a pretty wild ride of an investigation, sources from the woman's friends and the police.  You are also drawn into both the DC world and the world of TV news.  I won't spoil the plot for you but I didn't have an inkling as to what the outcome would be for most of the book.

Thank you to Elizabeth from Silver's Reviews.  Her review caused me to order this book from the library.
