Here is the next instalment of my monthly feature going
through the States of the United States in alphabetical order to check out how
they got named, what their flag is like and other things of interest.
Location –
Colorado is a landlocked state. It is
bordered by Wyoming, Nebraska, Kansas, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Utah and Arizona –
that's 7 states! About 6 million people
live in the state. It is the only US
state which lies entirely above 1000 meters in elevation. It has a town called – wait for it – No Name!
Nicknames –
Centennial State – so called because Colorado became a state in the centennial
year of the Declaration of Independence.

Denver.

Colorado has legalised marijuana. The state is raking in lots of taxes as a
result.
Colorado turned down a chance to host the Winter Olympics
in 1976.
My son lives in Boulder, CO about an hour north of Denver. I'll be visiting him and his wife in October. I'll visit The Garden of the Gods in Colorado Springs, an interesting park of rock formations. The US Airforce Academy is also in Co. Springs. Should be an expert when I get back!
