Walk on the Wild Side – Lou Reed

Holly came from Miami F.L.A.
Hitch-hiked her way across the U.S.A.
Plucked her eyebrows on the way
Shaved her legs and then he was a she
She said, hey babe, take a walk on the wild side,
Said, hey honey, take a walk on the wild side.

Doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo
Doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo
Doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo
Doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo
Doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo
Doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo
Doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo

By now you will have realised that almost all the popular music I like is decades old…. Sigh.  Oh, for a way to find new music reliably!

Today's song is Walk on the Wild Side  - it dates from 1972.  David Bowie produced it.  The hook in the song is absolutely fabulous – all those doo doo's.  I don't think I was particularly conscious of it but apparently there are some out there subject matter in the lyrics.

Go to this YouTube clip if you want to get this song into your head for the rest of the day!

  1. I have never heard this song before...just saying and I am certainly old enough.

  2. Great music choice Carole. I like 'Last Great American Whale' by Lou Reed. He was also in Velvet Underground.

  3. Its a rather unique song with some lyrics that when you think of when it was written are very racy and speaks of things that at the time probably seemed like wild ideas.
