The Evening Chorus by Helen Humphreys

The Evening Chorus was one of those books that draw you in.  The writing is spare and authentic despite the war time and post war settings.

This is not a book about the war.  It is a book about the way 4 disparate people react to their surroundings and events in their lives.  Does that sound soppy?  Well it isn't in the slightest.

A superb, subtle and unmistakably English book – which is a bit of a surprise since the author is Canadian.
