Hairy Maclary from Donaldson's Dairy is a simply fabulous kid's book. There are several books in the Hairy Maclary series (and videos etc) but the first book is just the best – as is so often the case.
In addition to Hairy Maclary shown above there are other delightful characters:
Hercules Morse as big as a horse
Bottomley Potts covered in spots
Muffin McLay like a bundle of hay
Bitzer Maloney all skinny and bony
Schnitzel von Krumm with a very low tum
Although it is a New Zealand book I'm sure children everywhere would enjoy it. The only truly New Zealand reference is 'Dairy' which to us means a small convenience store. We pop up the road to the dairy when we want to buy a paper, some milk or bread etc.
I think I would love this book with all the cute dog!
