Life under the Sea by Len Lye

This quite modern looking painting was done in 1930.

Len Lye was a New Zealand artist who spent quite a lot of time in marine environments as you can see from the picture.  While none of the figures are precisely lifelike they aren't completely abstract either.

My attention was drawn to this painting by New Zealand Art: From Cook to Contemporary.

  1. It looks like octopuses and jelly fish. Not quite abstract.
