It deals with creativity and the things that hold us back from producing a creative outcome – whether that is a book, song, painting – whatever.
One thing that particularly resonated with me was her take on the cliché of the tortured artist – the idea that production of a book or artwork has to be hard and difficult. Her proposition is that it should be enjoyed and that the idea that to be successful you have to be a tortured soul is very wrong.
I read an advance readers copy of Big Magic a few months ago and reviewed it on my blog. I loved reading it a lot and it has become one of my favorite reads of 2015 so far.
ReplyDeleteGilbert is an excellent writer and I have read and appreciated several of her books. I had not heard of this one. I'll have to check it out.
