Big Magic by Elizabeth Gilbert

Big Magic is subtitled Creative Living Beyond Fear.  I enjoyed this book very much although I didn't agree with all of it.  Anyone who is a writer (including all bloggers) should read this book.

It deals with creativity and the things that hold us back from producing a creative outcome – whether that is a book, song, painting – whatever.

One thing that particularly resonated with me was her take on the cliché of the tortured artist – the idea that production of a book or artwork has to be hard and difficult.  Her proposition is that it should be enjoyed and that the idea that to be successful you have to be a tortured soul is very wrong.

  1. I read an advance readers copy of Big Magic a few months ago and reviewed it on my blog. I loved reading it a lot and it has become one of my favorite reads of 2015 so far.
