Orange is the New Black by Piper Kerman

I ordered Orange is the New Black from the library after catching an episode on TV.  Until I was reading the book I didn't realise it was autobiographical!

It is always hard to know exactly how authentic an autobiography is but this one is worth a read.  Not only do you get a bit of insight into the life of a prisoner, you also follow Piper's progress to what can be described as a redemption – or at the very least becoming a better person.

Piper manages to make some grim stuff hilarious at times while overall still pulling on the heart strings.

Not my usual thing – but I loved it.  I haven't had time to watch the series yet so I have no idea how closely it follows the book.

  1. I have been or have watched the series on Netflix. I did read the book originally which was good. The series is way off from factual and/or the book but the acting is great in the series!

  2. The book is interesting band I enjoyed it, but the TV show doesn't follow it at all. The show is good, we watched season one, but the book is far more interesting.

  5. I didn't know it was an autobiography either. I've been watching the series on foxtel and love it, it's my favourite show!

  7. It kinda/sorta follows the series (or, the series follows the book, I mean) but a lot of stuff was changed. I like the series better than I liked the book overall, which is unusual.
