Help Me Make It Through the Night by Kris Kristofferson

I have clear memories of a cousin of mine singing this song as one of his party pieces (along with Tie a Yellow Ribbon).  Kris Kristofferson wrote some great songs – but, in my opinion, isn't actually much of a singer – apologies to his fans.

Other great Kristofferson songs included  Me and Bobby McGee

Given the song dated from 1970 some of the lyrics were considered to be somewhat scandalous!

Take the ribbon from your hair
Shake it loose and let it fall
Layin' soft upon my skin
Like the shadows on the wall
Come and lay down by my side
'Till the early morning light
All I'm takin' is your time
Help me make it through the night
I don't care what's right or wrong
I don't try to understand
Let the devil take tomorrow
Lord, tonight I need a friend
Yesterday is dead and gone
And tomorrow's out of sight
And it's sad to be alone
Help me make it through the night

  1. We love Kris Kristopherson, too!!! He sand duets with Willie Nelson and Louis Dean just nearly swoons over Willie's guitar playing!!

  3. Brings to mind the movie he did with Barbara Streisand,,,,A Star Is Born.
It seems to be the story of the famous....That movie was based on a previous one from1937 and also a musical with Judy Garland and James Mason in 1954.
    It really is sad!
