Nostalgia Alert!

Chocolate Crackles

Chocolate Crackles are a sweet memory from my childhood – sweet but not exactly healthy.  The recipe was on the back of every Rice Bubbles packet.

They are so easy to make that kids can easily do it themselves.

The Recipe:

4 cups of Rice Bubbles
1 cup of dessicated coconut
250g of Kremelta or other vegetable fat
3 tablespoons of cocoa powder
1 ½ cups of icing sugar

Mix everything except the fat together.  Melt the fat and stir it in to the mixture.

Spoon into patty cases or muffin tins and put in the fridge to set.

In the US I think these may be called Rice Krispie Treats.

  2. Happy New Year, Carole!
Here in Canada we also made something similar with Kellogg's Rice Krispies, margarine and marshmallows, without the chocolate, coconut or icing sugar.
Oh, well, as long as you don't eat them as a breakfast, there's no harm done.
