I was idly
watching Food TV recently and saw Nigella doing quick small roast potatoes in 5
minutes or so that she said were fabulous.
She called them Roastini's.
You just
take some store bought frozen gnocchi and fry them in a hot pan until golden
brown – and then they should be crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside.
I tried
this twice – the first time with chilled rather than frozen gnocchi – they got
nice and golden and looked nice but were a bit like rubber bullets to eat. I ended up chopping them up finely and using
them up the next day in a rice dish – they were edible – just.
The second
time I used frozen gnocchi and the results were better from an eating point of
view. The outsides weren't quite so
golden but they were edible.
Has anyone
else tried this and been successful.
Maybe the brand of gnocchi or the size affected the result??
Haven't try or heard of this before. They do look good in your photo.
ReplyDeleteI've never heard of this method before but roasted potatoes in 5 minutes does seem tempting!!
ReplyDeleteGnocci is one of my favorites.
ReplyDeleteInteresting-I like my gnocchi with sauce. I tried making some myself but it was a bland disaster. I will give it another go.
ReplyDeleteHumm. I really the idea of this because we love gnocchi. But I've only ever had it in sauce of some sort. If I decide to give this a go, I'll let you know if I'm successful.
ReplyDeleteI've never used frozen gnocchi and making the real thing seems so fussy that I haven't tried that either -- but I sure enjoy it in restaurants!
ReplyDeleteLove, love, love Nigella!!! You can't go wrong with roasted potatoes!
