Smoked Tuna Cocktail

Smoked Tuna Cocktail by Carole's Chatter
As a nod to the retro prawn cocktail, I did this cocktail using smoked tuna rather than prawns.  I hadn't had smoked tuna before and was very impressed with both its flavour and texture.  It was hand smoked – ie no chemicals so that was good.
At the bottom of the cocktail is a bed of shredded lettuce. The flakes of tuna were mixed up with cubs of avocado (with lemon juice on them to stop them browning), chopped red onion, some finely chopped chilli and salt and pepper.
The sauce drizzled over it was Sauce Marie Rose – a mix of ketchup (or tomato sauce as we call it), mayonnaise and cayenne pepper.
The cocktail was finished off with a garnish of chopped spring onion (scallion) – the green top bits.

  1. Oh this looks so pretty. I've had smoked fish before but not smoked tuna. I wonder if I could buy it around here. I bet not.

  2. Not a fan of smoked but love tuna. I would certainly try this.

  3. Never ate smoked tuna, only smoked salmon. Perhaps I will try it that way. It does look lovely. Perfect for tea on the porch.

  4. This sounds like a great entree perfect for a summer evening!

  5. There's a fish and chip place around the corner from my place that serves a Marie Rose sauce - I didn't know what was in it, but now I do! I usually go for their hot chili sauce, curry sauce & tartar... but I may have to give the MR a try!

  6. This sounds delicious Carole! I learned something new too. I have never heard of Marie Rose sauce. I need to try this one real soon.

  7. Smoked tuna is delicious, and I love this twist on a classic.

  8. This would be so nice to have on a hot day--light and refreshing. Thank you for sharing, Carole!
