Vanity Fair

I haven't read Vanity Fair by William Makepeace Thackeray for yonks. It's an oldie but a goodie. There was also a very fine BBC? adaptation of it for TV. You do have to accept that reading it means coping with older style English. The book was published in 1847!

It is a satire of society and manners. Becky Sharp is an enduring witty character – although also deeply unlikeable. She is greedy and cold but also bright and determined. If you want a slow burner of a book that is also very funny, this might be for you.
