Accent in pink, 1926 |
Kandinsky died on 13 December 1944
at the age of 78.
He
was a Russian painter. After the Russian
Revolution he moved to Germany. Then
when the Nazis came into power he moved again, this time to France where he
died before the war ended.
He
was one of the very early artists to do abstract art. He was also very musical and liked to say
that colour was like the keyboard on a piano.
You
can see in this painting he did in 1913 that while abstraction is taking over,
the title Sea Battle does allow you
to pick out some ships.
But
this work in 1926, called Several
Circles, is totally abstract and does not try to represent any reality.
his work is always a pleasure to look at and enjoy.
