21 November- Solution for the last clue and the next cryptic crossword clue

Toady, extremely smarmy chap, not replaced (9)
Solution – sycophant

A sycophant is someone who sucks up or greases, as we would say, the original yes man.

Extremely smarmy = the first and last letters, or extremes, of the word "smarmy" ie sy

Chap not replaced = is telling you that the letters in "chap not" should be re-placed ie put in a different order

Sy + cophant = sycophant

Today’s cryptic crossword clue solution tomorrow
Flying separately, leader of team, not in touch with reality? (2,7,6)
Source of clue – NZ Herald

Hint – the first word in the phrase is "on"
