Ian Scott is most well known for his lattice’s like the one
above.
Ian
decided to become an artist before going to Secondary School. His family had emigrated to New Zealand from
the UK when he was 7.
He
started out as a conventional landscape and figurative painter.
Scott
was one of the few artists to make the switch to contemporary realism (like Pop
Art) followed by modernist abstraction.
After
the lattices, he did a painters series that paid homage to other artists. After that he moved on to paintings which
referenced other works but had large lettering attached.
More
recently in a play on 'painting' he has been doing a series showing paint
brushes (usually house painting ones).
All
in all, an impressive body of work.
