Domme – Not just picturesque but magical

View over the Dordogne from outside the walls of Domme

The hilltop town of Domme is located on the Dordogne River in Aquitaine, France.  It retains its original fortifications which is unusual.  The town centre is a little bit gift shoppy but when you stand outside the walls and look down to the Dordogne you will be seeing one of the most spectacular views in France.

Porte des Tours, Domme

One of the towers at the entrance to the town (Porte des Tours) was used as a prison in the early 1300's and you can still see the crucifixes engraved on the walls  by the Knights Templar who were imprisoned there by the King.

A must visit place in France.

  1. The photographs are well done and it does make you want to visit France - if not for that, the food perhaps? I love your blog Carole. Glad we met. Your friend from the states, Patty.
