Tissot: A Society Painter

Tissot died on the 8th August in 1902. That's 110 years ago. He was a Frenchman who did most of his work in the UK.

At the height of his career he focused on painting ladies in contemporary and historical costumes. So we can see what Victorian ladies were like and Victorian ideas of decoration. As a result he became quite popular although you won't find him given too much credit in any art history books.
