Ernest Rutherford, that great New Zealander
was born on 30 August 1871. He was the
first scientist to split the atom – which he did in 1917. So I guess he also has a bit to answer
for. He was considered such a great
scientist that he was buried in Westminster Abbey near to Sir Isaac Newton. He features on our $100 note – not that I
ever see many of them!
