On
this day in 2008, the autobiography of Sir Peter Leitch was released. It was called “what a ride, mate”. Sir Peter is an iconic New Zealander. Also affectionately known as “the Mad
Butcher” and since his knighthood “Sir Loin”.
He
is an inspirational person – having built a successful chain of butchers shops
with inspired personal marketing. He is
a mad keen Rugby League man and has supported the code though thick and thin.
His
philanthropic efforts are outstanding.
Even though he was battling difficult health issues he was instrumental
in several initiatives to help Christchurch
post quake.
He
is an entertaining public speaker. A
testament to just how powerful a personal brand can be when it matches the
person’s personality and that person fully ‘walks the talk’.
The
autobiography – well it was ghost written by Phil Gifford (who is a very funny
writer) – is a good and quick read.
Quite suitable for a book about a man who suffered from dyslexia, left
school at 15 but rose above all that to be a true NZ hero.
