Solution for 21 May cryptic crossword clue

Short of money, copper has drafts forged (8,3,4)
Solution – Strapped for cash

This is an anagram clue.  But I really like how you could read the whole clue as being about the same thing.  The definition is found in the first 3 words and the rest of the clue is the word play.  The anagram indicator (ie the piece of the clue that hints that an anagram is involved) is “forged”.  By adding up the number of letters in the solution you can work out that the anagram must be of “copper has drafts”.

Quite a difficult anagram to work out – I needed to deconstruct the letters before I had a show at it.

“Strapped for cash” is another way of saying you are short of money.  And is made up of the letters used in “copper has drafts”.
