Lake Wakatipu and the TSS Earnslaw

Lake Wakatipu

Lake Wakatipu and the TSS Earnslaw – an historic old steamer on one of the most beautiful lakes in the world.

TSS Earnslaw

One of the functions at a conference I went to was on board the TSS Earnslaw – we tutu’ed down the lake to Walter Peak Station and came back to Queenstown.  A nice little cruise with dinner on board.  The steamer is quite large and can take up to 1000 people theoretically – although I think it would be more comfortable at no more than 500 people.  The round trip takes 3 and a half hours.

To be honest, the food was pretty basic.  A better idea would have been to take the boat to Walter Peak Station and eat there returning later.

It was a lovely evening and Lake Wakatipu is the deepest natural lake in the South Island.  The water is spectacularly clear – and cold.

    1. You wouldn't regret it - even though I am obviously biased!. Thanks for the comment
