I was musing
the other day on how few business men still wear ties in the office. And tie sightings in restaurants are now very
rare. The whole concept of a tie – a
piece of material tied around the neck with no particular purpose – is odd.
So I decided to
do a bit of research on how ties developed.
The modern tie apparently traces its origins back to the early 1600’s in
the form of a cravat. But it wasn’t
until the industrial revolution that a tie like we know it came into common
usage.
I remember the
70’s when lots of people wore ties that were pre-tied and slipped on over the
head. Thankfully that went out of
fashion.
So what will or
has replaced the tie as a way of expressing a man’s individuality or
personality?
You are so right! Ties are seldom seen in my world any more!

DeleteWhat currently expresses a man's personality? Facial hair. What will it be... goatee, scruff, clean shaven? Thanks for stopping by my blog. The link you left didn't work - I'd like to "hit" your poem for you. Try again? Congrats on getting so many hits with just starting your blog a few months ago! Share your secrets!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for letting me know re the link. I thought I had done it right .... so much to learn. But it has been fun learning how to do things in the blogosphere!
ReplyDeleteMy father has a closet full of ties! I loved each and everyone of them!nPeople today are so casual. We recently had dinner at a nice restaurant with our two sons, and they all got dressed up. We even had to buy Nick new dress shoes! It was fun! Sunday is my nephews first communion. We will get all gussied up again!
