Blue Suede Shoes – Carl Perkins – born on this day in 1932

The phrase “don’t step on my blue suede shoes” was passed on to Perkins by Johnny Cash.  Although Blue Suede Shoes is linked in most people’s minds to Elvis, it was written by Perkins in 1955.  It became an immediate classic.   But the very next year Perkins had a bad accident and lost his career momentum.

Fortunately he made more money as a result of Elvis releasing the song.

This has been named as the first rock and roll song.  A blend of country, blues and pop.
