I’m really glad I was given this book. It is full of lovely images by New Zealand artists – selected by the artist Frizzell based on influences on him. The result is eclectic to say the least. A lot of the more recent artists in it were quite unknown to me. Some for good reason I fear. And Frizzell’s comments on some of the more established artists are not all favourable. For instance, he says of Rita Angus that “I do find an awful lot of her work to be a bit silly… Possibly she should have got out more”. Not a judgment I share but interesting to read. Some of the more stunning images in the book include:
Hamiora by Charles Goldie
Head of a Maori Boy by Rita Angus
Felice by Raymond McIntyre
Slow sign by Grahame Sydney
Thanks for visiting my blog, Carole. I'll have to check out this book by your recommendation.
