Essence – Lucinda Williams

Don’t just think country here – think rock, blues and folk as well.  One of the great blue grass artists, Emmylou Harris said that Lucinda “should be at the very centre of country music.  She is an example of what country at least says it is”.  The title track is dark, weary and just a little angry.  Great stuff particularly played loud late at night.

Lucinda also did one of the duets on Return of the Grievous Angel – which was  a tribute to Gram Parsons.  Other favourite Williams’ tracks include – Those Three Days, World Without Tears, Cold Cold Heart, Words Fell and Come On
