Bridge Over Troubled Water – Simon & Garfunkel

Much of the lyric of this truly iconic song was written to praise Simon’s wife Peggy.  For instance, the reference to “Sail on silver girl” was a joke based on Peggy’s horror at finding a couple of gray hairs on her head.

The vocal was done by Garfunkel even though he resisted doing it.  Later Simon regretted the profile it gave him.  A great piano song.  It has been much covered but never done better.

Fame came to Simon & Garfunkel as a result of “The Sound of Silence” in 1964.  Bridge dated from 1969.  It was on the last album before they split up - again.

Simon and Garfunkel were childhood friends.  They were part of the folk music scene.  They have split up and reunited so many times, who can count?
