We have been to the little Norman town of
Villedieu Les Poêles several times. Its
name is in reference to its specialty which is copper pans. Other than that it is a pretty typical town.
We have been to 2 different creperies in
the town. One which is in the centre of
town and is very busy and one up a side street which is tiny and quiet.
The first galette (savoury crepe) was at La
Cuisine de Leonie on the Place des Chevaliers de Malte. I ordered stupidly and ended up with a galette
with 2 sausages stuck on top – no sauce – I had no idea until we were back home that
this in fact is a delicacy and you are supposed to roll the sausages up in the
galette. Still some sauce would have
been nice. This pic gives you an idea of
what it was like although the galette I got didn't have the onions.
A few days later we went to the little crêperie
on the way to St Lo (Au Relais du Cuivre, rue du General Huard).
The crepes
were as good as we remembered - just 4/5 tables - i had the Parmentiere - which
had lardons potatoes and cream and my better half had the Parisienne (with ham
and mushroom). The meals were tasty and
filling – and cheaper too.
Yummy. :-)
