Happy Birthday to Rembrandt. Born in 1606!

Portrait of a Young Woman

Rembrandt was the most important Dutch master in history.  He was successful in his own lifetime but had a habit of living beyond his means.  He ended up being buried as a pauper.  Let that be a lesson to us all.

A Polish Nobleman

But he left some very fine work.  I have selected a handful to share with you.

  2. On our last visit to our son in Amsterdam, we visitied the Rijksmuseum and I was lucky to see the "Night Watch" in real life. It was just fantastic.

Did you know, they also have a statue of the Night Watch guys on the Rembrandtplein, it's a great momument to their most famous painting.
