Michael
Illingworth was born in 1932 and died in 1988. He was born in England but came to New
Zealand in the 50's so we claim his as our own.
He was a successful artist but as with many didn't profit all that much
from it. His paintings sell in the
secondary market for oodles of cash.
Towards the end of his life he farmed on the Coromandel
Peninsula (near Coroglen) and painted mostly at night.
A friend of his described him as a prickly person with
a good heart – and of course his art stands for itself.
