Today's
travel post is a bit of a local tour – some nice spots in my own fair city.
Judges Bay
and the Parnell Rose Garden are all part of Dove-Meyer Robinson Park (a former
Mayor of Auckland). As you can see from
the pictures it is a tranquil coastal setting which also happens to be very
close to the CBD. Judges Bay got its name
from the original settlers who built houses on the bay – one was a judge!
The
Anglican church of St Stephens is located on the high side of Judges Bay – it
is a quaint little old church surrounded by interesting gravestones.
It was built in 1857 and so is one of our
older buildings. It is still used for
weekly services and is popular for intimate weddings.
The best
time to see the roses in the Parnell Rose Garden is from October to December
when they are in full bloom. I do love
roses – although my favourites are not red ones! I'm a sucker for yellow or a glorious blush
pink.
How pretty! In Hartford, Connecticut, we have a rose garden with many types of flowers in the spring and summer. I visit often to photograph the blooms.
