Books You loved: October
had lots of interesting books. Some
reviews that caught my eye were:
Invisible
Ellen was reviewed by Chick Lit Central.
Melissa said "It
has definitely made it to my 2014 favorites list, as well as my all-time
favorites list." I got this out of the
library and am reading this now! A great
recommendation.
The
Annotated Persuasion was reviewed by Diary of an Eccentric.
Anna said "These annotations made my second reading of Persuasion
a thoroughly enjoyable experience. I finished the novel for the second
time with a richer understanding of the characters and the time period and a
better appreciation for Austen’s genius. " I have never thought of reading an annotated
copy of a Jane Austen book – now on my list of things to do.
Dreamer's Pool was brought to us by Books
Without Any Pictures. Grace said "
Marillier’s prose is sublime. The atmosphere that she creates reminds me
of writers like Patricia McKillip or Robin McKinley, evocative of myths and
faerie tales, but with a fresh feminist perspective. Dreamer’s Pool is the first of Marillier’s novels
that I’ve read, which makes me wonder–Juliet Marillier, where have you been all
my life?"
Exiles
was
brought over by Carmen's Books and Movies Reviews. Carmen said "I have read
sad (and inspiring) books in my day, but Exiles
by Ron Hansen is in contention to take the cake in both categories. I felt
moved by the life of Gerard Manley Hopkins, his convictions, the desertion of
friends and family when he abandoned the comfort of his faith for a stranger
(and poorly perceived) one, desertion that felt to him like betrayal because in
the most important moments of his life the people closest to him weren’t
present. That hurts! He remained as the nuns, an exile until the end." I go this one out of the library because I like his
poetry and while it wasn't a total fave of mine I did enjoy it.
Daring: My Passages was reviewed by Guiltless
Reading. She said "I really enjoyed reading this memoir
and am thankful that Gail Sheehy has taken the time to document her fascinating
journey as a woman and journalist through the past fifty years. " I'm looking
forward to reading this one. I remember
reading Passages in the 70's.
Now for the November collection. Remember the post doesn't have to be a recent
one and the book doesn't have to have been recently published or read. The
only requirement is that it is about a book that you loved.
To add to the list just pop the name of the book (and
your name/blog name if you like) into the first Mr Linky box and then copy and
paste the url of your post about it into the second box.
I'll be pinning your links to this Pinboard to make it easier
for you to check them out at a glance.
Happy November!
Yeah...I love this monthly post.
ReplyDeleteI was waiting to post my book. It was one I truly enjoyed.
Elizabeth

ReplyDeleteThanks for featuring Exiles above; too bad you didn't like it as much as I did.
Regards.
I cast my mind back over the books I've read recently for something outstanding and nothing really came readily to mind, but I looked at my reading list and finally settled on two mysteries: Back Spin by Harlan Coben and The Pusher by Ed McBain. Each was an enjoyable read and notable within its own genre. Recommended for those who enjoy mysteries.
ReplyDeleteCarole - Thanks so much for these posts. This month I submitted once by accident (#29) so you can remove it. The post is about a book but even more so about an author I loved reading.
ReplyDeleteI just finished "At Bluebonnet Lake" by Amanda Cabot - loved it! If you are looking for a sweet romance, this is it! :) And it 's a start of a series, which the next book will continue on with many of the characters in this book!
ReplyDeleteHappy Reading - Kristie
Absolutely loved First Impressions by Charlie Lovett. A must read for all Jane Austen fans.
ReplyDeleteThanks Carole, I just included a link to a FREE e-book I enjoyed, and only 26 pages long too, but only if you don't mind a swear word or two.
