Food on Friday: Slow Food

 ON

I am not a member of the slow food movement although I do agree that taking the time to cook some things really slowly does result in great flavour.  This Food on Friday is collecting all sorts of recipes that have only one thing in common – they require a long slow cook.

To add to the collection, just pop your name and the name of the dish into the first Mr Linky box and paste the url of your post about it into the second box.

I'll be pinning the dishes to this Pinboard - this will let you see the pinned dishes at a glance so you can choose which ones you want to check out in more detail.

Happy slow food, everyone!

  1. Carole, I'm not a member of the slow food movement either. I bought a slow cooker and gave it away. I do have a small 6 qt Nesco roaster, but after using it a couple of times, I went back to the oven when I wanted a slow "roasted" meal, like pot roast or leg of lamb or lamb shanks. That is what a Dutch Oven is for.

  2. We've been trying some recipes that require a good amount of time. I shared our version of the artisan bread from Sullivan Street Bakery (NYC) and an at-home method of making pastrami. Enjoy!

  3. Hi Carole I love this old favourite slow cooked one pot dish using beef. It can be ready in 2 and a half hours of left in a slow cooker all day to come home to ! Nourishing and delicious for all the family.

  5. Hey Carole! I also don't own a slow cooker, but this Hickory Smoked Pulled Pork is slow-cooked on a smoker...and it's my absolute favorite outdoor meal! (Too bad my smoker is still buried under a pile of snow right now...)

  9. Carole,
You wouldn't think muffins would qualify as a slow food, but I start my soaked oat muffins days ahead--even mixing up the buttermilk & oat base on Sunday nights for daily muffins through Friday! I've linked up my basic muffin recipe.
We all know that cookie dough is better after a day or two in the refrigerator--and so is pizza. I usually make my pizza dough on Wednesday for Friday Night Pizza night, so I've linked up my Pizza Primer.

  10. I posted a 10-hour pizza crust. Most of my breads take overnight, because if you do that there's no need to knead! Thanks for the opportunity to post, Carole.

  13. I love the slow cooker! I like that I can cook something while I homeschool my daughter, and I don't have to stop schooling repeatedly so I can stir! : )

I'm sharing a week of Slow Cooker Soups - all Vegan and most GF, too.

  20. I love my slow cooker. I frequently fill it up the night before and place it in the refrigerator overnight. Next morning I pull it out and set it to cook for 10-12 hours on the lowest setting. When I get home from work, the kitchen is filled with an amazing aroma, and I get to sit down to a great pot of stew or soup.

  22. I'm not very patient when it comes to cooking, but I LOVE making things ahead of time with my crock pot...I just have to remember to do it more! I haven't done anything with it since the Pumpkin Chili (that I just linked up) I made back in November! Ha! Thanks so much for the invite!

  23. I added my Crock Pot Chili! Thought it would be a good edition for the super bowl!

  25. I could go for a little summer here--we've been below zero here most nights past week (that's Fahrenheit folks, not Celsius so it's COLD LOL). Send some above the equator Carole!

  27. Hello! This is my first time here =) I love my slow cooker, there's just so many different things you can do with it, and it makes meals a breeze!

  28. I don't have a ton of slow cooker meals (I usually just use it for roasting chickens) so I added a home made pasta dish because it takes forever to hand make all the raviolis. That counts right?

  29. Thanks so much for the party! Love the flavor of slow cook foods. I also like those long cold or raining days, staying home and cooking all day. Great Food on Fridays!
