Signac – a dotty artist!

Gas tanks at Clichy by Signac

Paul Signac was a French painter who died of septicimia at the age of 72 on August 15th in 1935.  He called himself a Neo-Impressionist.  He was one of the most enthusiastic of the pointillist painters  - ie his paintings were made up of little dots or squares of paint.  It is less the technique than the glorious use of colour that appeals to me.

He often stayed in St Tropez and many of his paintings are of the coastline and boats.
