This
painting of a little New Zealand country church is one of my all time faves. The artist did quite a few paintings of
churches. I love the cabbage tress on
each side and the landforms and sky. And
the rendering of the flaking paint work is quite breath taking. The work dates from 1953 but feels quite
timeless.
My
attention was drawn to this painting by New Zealand Art: From Cook to
Contemporary
Must admit that the artist's name (Sutton) caught my eye. I know we aren't related, but it sounds like he could be from part of the family that move far away! I'll look a little deeper to find out more about his work.
