Standing in
the ruins of Abbaye de Hambye is
quite eerie. Big black birds (ravens?)
swoop up around the top of the building.
The Abbey is not in a major tourist area and so each time I have visited
we have pretty much had the place to ourselves.
The Abbey is in Lower Normandy – about 60k north of Mont St Michel.
The Abbey
is part of what was a 12th century Benedictine monastery. Some of the buildings have survived but the
Abbey itself is a ruin – having suffered from having its stone taken and reused
post the French Revolution. It sits in a
nice rural setting.
Next time
we are in France I would love to see it lit up at night like this!
