Bella Figura by Kamin Mohammadi

Bella Figura is written by an experienced journalist.  She writes about a year she spent in Florence writing a book about her early life in Iran.

The book is entertaining and quite perceptive about the Italian approach to life.  And the change in lifestyle certainly worked for her – losing weight, clearer skin, more pleasure in life and as they say much better work/life balance.

The only slightly jarring thing is that she lists at the end of the book, her commandments for living bella figura.  This came across as a bit bossy and know it all.  But you could just skip that bit.

  1. I'm usually not captivated by writers who issue commandments. But there's certainly the making of an interesting tale about the transition from life in Iran to life in Italy which from my distance seem very different societies.

  2. I just read another side of the Iranian immigrant story: Disoriental by Negar Djavadi, translated from the French. Coincidence maybe?

  3. I just finished a detective story set in Rome which concentrated on the city and the food rather than the detection. I loved it.
I think I'll like this one as well
