Shadow on the Crown by Patricia Bracewell

Shadow on the Crown is a novel based on history.  Think Philippa Gregory but set at an earlier time – right in the early 1000's.  The central character is Emma who is Norman and is sent to marry the English King.

I enjoyed this one every bit as much as the Philippa Gregory Tudor novels.  It was deftly handled.  The history isn't overwhelming and you find yourself racing to find out what happened.

This is the first of a trilogy – how fashionable.  The second one is on order from the library.  I'm not sure the third one has been published yet.

  1. I was recently thinking I wanted to read some historical fiction from the early 1000s. Thanks!

  2. I doubt I've read anything from the 1000s. This sounds very good.
