James Tissot – a painter to High Society

James Tissot, as you can see, excelled at painting society ladies in their finery.  The painting at the top is called Young Girl in a Red Jacket.  The contrast of the bright red bolero with the subdued tones of the wallpaper and the enormous black skirt is striking.

This glorious painting is called The Ball.  Love the flounces on that yellow dress.  I guess Tissot, if he had worked today, would probably be a fashion blogger or photographer.

  1. I think Tissot was a brilliant painter and he sometimes painted historical imagined moments which I also admire.
