For today's art post, I once again dipped into the collection
of the Musée D'Orsay. This portrait at
the top of the post is by Léon Bonnat
– it is of his mother. I think this is a
lovely, sympathetic but truthful portrait.
This one is quite a contrast – it is of a newly elected
President of France, Jules Grevy – who I had never heard of before. My grip on French history in 1880 not being
up to much! The portrait just reeks of
power and solemnity.
Which one do you like the best?
Interesting portraits....actually, the one of his mother looks so serene....
ReplyDeleteI love the mother! What an amazing painting.....both are!
