Bridge Over Troubled Water by Simon & Garfunkel

When you're weary, feeling small,
When tears are in your eyes, I will dry them all;
I'm on your side. When times get rough
And friends just can't be found,
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will lay me down.
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will lay me down.

Bridge Over Troubled Water was an iconic song and album from 1970.  Sadly the duo split up not long afterwards.  The cover is just awful – maybe the way they chose to be depicted was illustrative of their fracturing artistic partnership.

Over 50 other artists (including Elvis) have covered the song – but as is usually the case- the original is the best.  I was going to give you a link to YouTube but all the versions I tried were littered with ads.

Other great songs from the album included: The Boxer, So Long Frank Lloyd Wright and Cecilia.

  1. Loooove this album! My parents had it. Its actually 3 yrs older then me, but I remember listening to it when I was a child. Then I rediscovered it in my college years. Now my teenage kids sing along. I wish wish wish to hear them both singing side by side. I imagine small club, not a huge hall, a piano, a guitar, unplugged.

  3. Such an iconic song. I was a teenager and a total fan when this album came out. I was a little shocked by the other songs on the album - "Me and Julio" in particular. I couldn't figure it out. This album was a game changer in the US and the title song has figured in so many venues - retreats, personal essays, etc. Thanks for featuring it!
