Books You Loved: May Edition

It's not the first Wednesday in the month.  I missed it. Thanks Kristen for reminding me! So, it's Books You Loved time – on a better late than never basis.

Books You Loved: April was interesting – as always.  Some reviews that particularly caught my eye were:

Books I Think You Should Read reviewed Eligible by Curtis Sittenfeld – a modern retelling of Pride & Prejudice.  The review said 'It was much easier to read for me than Austen's version, too, but at the same time, the writing style was classic, if that makes sense; the novel made me laugh out loud a few times too because of the author's dry wit. …I'd recommend this book to not only avid Austenites, but those who enjoy "chick lit" or modern romances.'

I was intrigued by Start Where You Are by Meera Lee Patel  It was reviewed by Suko's Notebook who said 'Meera's vibrant, colorful watercolor illustrations and words provide ample inspiration, and present various quotations by authors, including many well-known women writers, such as Anaïs Nin, George Eliot, and Anne Frank ...  This journal pairs quotations with writing and drawing prompts which encourage reflection, exploration, and understanding through informal, expressive writing and drawing.'

Miller's Valley by Anna Quindlen was reviewed by Lit and Life.  The reviewer said 'I'm half tempted just to say to you here "just, please, read this book" and leave it at that. Seriously. Unless you don't like lovely coming-of-age stories, complex stories about families, strong characters and vivid settings.'

Mary of Moonshine and Rosefire brought over A Change in Altitude by Anita Shreve.  She said 'a heartfelt portrait of a fledgling marriage. Written with a stunning emotional intensity and strikingly lyrical language, Ms. Shreve transports her readers to the exotic landscape of Africa and into the most intimate of relationships. She delves into the private life of a newly married couple, the irrevocable impact of a tragedy, and the elusive nature of forgiveness.'

Now on to the May collection.  There are no rules other than your post is about a book that you loved.

To add to the list just pop the name of the book (and your name/blog name if you like) into the first Mr Linky box and then copy and paste the url of your post about it into the second box.

I'll be pinning your links to this Pinboard to make it easier for you to check them out at a glance.

I hope you discover some great books to read – I always do!  Please invite other book loving people to join in the fun – the more the merrier!
