Rozzie at Pisa by Grahame Sydney, 1978

Another great New Zealand artist for you today – Grahame Sydney.  This is a portrait of his wife.  It is painted from their home on a station near Cromwell in Central Otago.  You see the iconic landscape behind and in the foreground is this extraordinary portrait.

His wife is shown gazing away from him into the distance – just what is she thinking?  She looks like a strong woman who perhaps has not had an easy life.

My attention was drawn to this painting by New Zealand Art: From Cook to Contemporary
