22 August 1914 – the deadliest day in World War I


Instead of my normal Saturday travel witterings, I thought I would take a moment to reflect on this day 101 years ago which was said to be the War's deadliest day.  More French soldiers died on that day than on any other in history.  27,000 French soldiers died on that day.  Incomprehensible.
